A mom from near Schalm Elementary enrolled her 8-year-old daughter with us.
Her daughter was sweet, well-liked, and genuinely kind, but she was a people-pleaser who couldn't say no. Other kids would take her things on the playground, pressure her into choices she didn't want to make, and she'd just go along with it.
She didn't want to cause trouble.
Her mom wasn't worried about her being mean. She was worried about her being taken advantage of.
She didn't need more toughness. She needed to believe, deep down, that she was worth standing up for.
We started with the basics: how to stand tall, how to make eye contact, how to speak with a clear, steady voice. On the mat, we practiced
saying "no" with conviction. Not angrily, not fearfully, but with calm, grounded confidence.
Her Personal Power Plan had one clear goal
for the first month: make eye contact and speak up at least once every class.

Six months in, something happened at school. A classmate had been taking her lunch snacks every day.
One afternoon, she looked at him and said, simply and clearly: "That's mine. Don't take it." He stopped.
She didn't yell. She didn't cry. She just stood in her truth.
Her mom called us that evening. She said, "I don't know what you did, but she walks differently now.
She holds her head up." That is self-respect. And it starts on the mat.

Many parents in Clawson hesitate before searching for "kids karate classes" because they picture aggressive kids,
sparring matches, and a culture of toughness. What we actually teach is the opposite.
Respect for self. Before a child can respect others, they must believe they are worth respecting.
We build this through small, consistent wins, a technique mastered, a goal achieved, a challenge overcome.
Every class gives your child evidence that they are capable.
Respect for others. Every class begins and ends with a bow. Students learn to listen when others speak,
to encourage their classmates, and to treat their training partners with care.
These habits don't stay on the mat; they come home with your child.
Respect for the process. In a world of instant results, karate teaches children that real growth takes time and consistent effort.
A child who learns to respect the process of earning a belt learns to respect the process of earning anything worth having:
a grade, a friendship, a skill.
After working with children from Clawson and the surrounding communities for over three decades,
we've seen this pattern repeat hundreds of times: the child who comes in unable to look an adult in the eye leaves as the
one who holds the door open and says "thank you" without being reminded.
This is the most common concern we hear, and the answer is a firm no. Our program is built on respect, self-control, and emotional regulation.
Students who struggle with aggression learn to channel their energy productively. Students who are shy or passive learn to stand tall.
Karate is a tool for balance, not aggression.
Not at all. Our Little Dragons program is specifically designed for children ages 4 to 6. At this age, we focus on fun, foundational skills like listening, following directions, and basic body coordination. All in a safe, encouraging, kids-only environment.
We're located at 1711 Livernois Road in Troy, just a five-minute drive from downtown Clawson. Many of our families from the Clawson Park and Clawson Farms areas make it a regular part of their weekly routine.
That's exactly why we start with a free 1-on-1 Introductory Lesson followed by a free 2-week trial. There's no commitment and no pressure. We want you to be completely confident this is the right fit before you make any decision.
Clawson families have been part of our community for decades. We've watched children from near City Park grow up,
earn their black belts, and come back years later to enroll their own kids. We've celebrated alongside families at Clawson Fest
and cheered for our students at their school events.
We're not a national chain or a franchise that opened last year. We are a school with deep roots in this community,
built on a genuine commitment to the children and families we serve. Our 255+ Google Reviews with a 4.9-star average reflect
