7 Years. One Attitude. “Yes I Can.”
Meet Adhrit Sinha — 13 years old, 7 years of training, and a young man who turned nervousness into leadership, and “I can’t” into a championship board break.

He Walked In Nervous. He Left Jumping for Joy.
Adhrit Sinha started his martial arts journey in May 2019 — the day he received his white belt at Skillz Dynamics. He walked in wearing a short sleeve shirt and long pants, not quite sure what to expect.
Then he saw it: every student bowing and loudly saying, “Hello Sir!” He copied them immediately. He bowed. He said it loud. And something clicked.
After that first class, Adhrit was jumping with joy. He started attending regularly, learning the rules, and quickly discovering that kicks and punches were harder than they looked. Mr. Strecker showed him the correct technique — and Adhrit went home and practiced.
His mother’s vision was simple: find an activity where Adhrit could learn public speaking and get some exercise. Seven years later, that vision has become something far greater.
Why He’s Earning His Black Belt
Adhrit knew he wanted to be a Black Belt from the very beginning — the moment he watched older students perform their forms. It wasn’t just the cool tricks. It was something in their faces when they moved. A focus. A presence. A transformation.
The road included real challenges: staying motivated during COVID, attending online classes, and balancing school, homework, and other activities. But Adhrit found his answer in two words: “Yes I Can.”
He also leaned on his parents — expressing his feelings, making weekly plans together, writing goals on a whiteboard. Small steps. Consistent effort. One day at a time.

The Life Skills Adhrit Built Over 7 Years
Martial arts training at Mastery Martial Arts goes far beyond kicks and punches — it builds the whole child.
Leadership & Communication
Adhrit used to feel afraid and hesitant talking to others. Through leadership training, he learned to control his emotions and introduce himself without fear or anxiety. His teachers now say he sets an example of a leader in class.
“Yes I Can” Attitude
His signature mindset. When COVID hit and motivation faded, Adhrit turned to two words that changed everything. This attitude of taking small steps toward a big goal is something he carries into every challenge he faces.
Focus & Discipline
His teachers at school have noted that Adhrit shows great focus while studying. He manages his time across school, homework, and training — and he does it with a plan, a checklist, and a whiteboard.
Responsibility at Home
One dojo lesson Adhrit uses every single day: making his bed. Not just as a chore, but as the first win of the day. When he visited India, his grandparents were amazed to see him helping with chores without being asked.
Openness & Connection
Martial arts helped Adhrit become a more open person at home and school. He no longer gives one-word answers. He engages. He listens. He greets people with a big smile — a transformation his parents are incredibly proud of.
Perseverance
Seven years of training through COVID, time management challenges, and the pressure of a Rhode Island Black Belt test. Adhrit kept showing up. He kept taking small steps. That is what Black Belt is made of.
The Board That Split the Room in Half
At the Troy Championship in May 2024, Adhrit found himself in the board-breaking finale — facing off against Mr. Lochan, with Mr. Russo himself holding the board. The whole room was watching.
Mr. Lochan had broken his board in seven tries. Adhrit stepped up, a little intimidated but fired up. He gave it his best pop fronts.
His biggest role model at Mastery? Mr. Pai — the person Adhrit goes to first for almost anything karate-related, and someone with whom he has shared some of his most memorable moments both inside and outside the dojo.
His most memorable event: the first time he traveled to Rhode Island for Certified Black Belt testing. Nervous, fired up, and experiencing something far bigger than anything he had seen in Troy.

What Adhrit’s Parents Have Seen
“We as parents saw a significant difference after starting martial arts in Troy. He is disciplined, responsible, and always eager to learn new skills. His way of approaching people has changed. He greets people with a big smile and talks to them. He is becoming a good listener. We are so proud of him.”
“Earning Black Belt has had an enormous amount of positive impact. Teachers at school have said that he sets an example of a leader and always leads a class. He shows great focus while studying and respect while talking to classmates.”
“I recommend Mastery Martial Arts because this is a place where kids learn life skills that are very important in their journey. Mr. Strecker works with each kid individually and learns about kids personally. Kids enjoy being at Mastery Martial Arts and learning new things.”
Adhrit’s Advice to Every New Student
“Give 100% effort all the time in learning — and it will help you to be successful.”What Black Belt Means to Adhrit
“Black Belt means to me to be able to show all the life skills and use them purposefully in my daily life.” For Adhrit, it is not a rank on a wall — it is a way of living, greeting people, showing up, and using everything the dojo has taught him in every moment of every day.
Three Words That Describe His Journey
Dedication. Commitment. Challenging. Seven years of showing up, pushing through COVID, balancing school and training, and never losing sight of the goal. That is Adhrit’s Black Belt journey in three words.
What’s Next After Black Belt
After earning his Black Belt, Adhrit wants to learn coding and advance to the next level of the Legacy Program. He is already thinking about how to combine his passion for technology with the discipline and leadership he has built on the mat.
“My son has been attending for 2 years and the transformation has been incredible. His confidence, focus, and respect have all improved dramatically. Mr. Strecker truly cares about every child.”
