A New Kid from India Who Needed to Find His Place
When Anay Pai moved to Troy, Michigan from India, he was looking for more than just an activity — he needed a place to make friends and learn how to connect with others. At 6 years old, he walked into Mastery Martial Arts, and everything changed.
He still remembers his very first intro lesson. Mr. Strecker took him into a separate room, talked with him, and made him laugh and smile. That moment of personal connection set the tone for the next nine years.
Today, Anay is 15 years old, holds his Black Belt, leads the demo team, and is preparing for his 2nd Degree Black Belt test in October 2026.

The Moment He Knew He Wanted to Earn His Black Belt
Anay’s motivation came from watching the older students in class. He saw how confident, kind, and impressive they were — and made a decision that would define the next several years of his life.
The road wasn’t always easy. His hardest challenge came during his Apprentice Black Belt test — a one-mile run and completing his testing online during COVID. But Anay pushed through with a simple, powerful mindset.
The Life Skills Anay Built Over 9 Years

Leadership
Before martial arts, Anay was afraid to speak up. Now he leads the entire demo team — managing students, planning routines, and competing at tournaments.
Discipline at School
Anay always completes his assignments on or before time. The focus he built on the mat carries directly into the classroom every single day.
Responsibility at Home
Without being asked, Anay helps his parents and does his chores. The respect and accountability he learned in the dojo lives in his home life too.
Confidence
From a shy newcomer who struggled to talk to others, Anay now speaks with assurance, gives speeches in front of crowds, and mentors younger students.
Perseverance
When things got hard — a tough test, COVID restrictions, a challenging mile run — Anay kept going. He describes his Black Belt journey in three words: Excited. Nervous. Perseverance.
Role Model
Both younger students and some adults now look up to Anay. He has become the very thing that inspired him — the older student who makes others say, “I want to be like them.”
The Night That Changed Everything
Ask Anay about his most memorable moment and he doesn’t hesitate: the Night of Champions tournament on May 10, 2025.
That victory wasn’t just about a trophy. It was proof that the leadership skills Anay had been building for years were real — and that he could inspire and guide others to achieve something extraordinary.
His favorite activity in class? Weapons training — and now, teaching weapons to the next generation of students. The student has become the teacher.

After earning his 1st Degree Black Belt, Anay is already looking ahead — preparing for his 2nd Degree test in October 2026, continuing to teach and mentor students, and pursuing his dream of becoming an aerospace engineer. The discipline he built on the mat is the same discipline that will take him to the stars.
